Immeasurably More: A Study of Ephesians 3:20-21

Ephesians 3:20-21 celebrates God’s ability to do far more than we can imagine.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

The Mighty Power Within Us

It’s easy to think of our plans and dreams as giant puzzles with pieces scattered everywhere. We try to piece things together and make sense of our lives, and sometimes it feels like we’re just one piece short. Here, Paul reminds us that God can do immeasurably more than anything we could dream up. How incredible is that?

The words “immeasurably more” suggest a level of abundance that goes beyond our wildest dreams. It’s not just the “more” that we can quantify or anticipate—it’s a more that shatters any boundaries we’ve constructed in our minds. The key here is that this isn’t by our own might or cleverness. It is “according to his power that is at work within us.”

The Glory in the Church and Christ Jesus

We often think of God’s power in grand displays—parting seas, healing the sick, or raising the dead. But this power, alive in us, glorifies God. This power is meant to work through us as individuals and as a community of believers. The glory belongs to God not just in our personal lives but in the church as a whole.

The mention of “generations” hints that this isn’t just a passing idea. It’s a lasting truth—a promise that spans across time, cultures, and circumstances. God’s immeasurable power continues across generations, reminding us that we’re all part of a grand narrative that stretches far beyond our own timeline.

Living with a Mindset of Immeasurable Possibility

Sometimes, it’s easy to get bogged down by our limitations or the obstacles life throws at us. But what if we live each day in the awareness that God can do infinitely more than we ask for or even dream of? What kind of freedom and hope would fill our lives and our communities?

This passage encourages us to view our journey through a lens of divine possibility—one that invites us to trust in the incredible things God has in store, both within our hearts and in the collective purpose of the church.
